Almost 2000 Guyanese Companies disappear overnight.
Notice was published in the Official Gazette dated 14 February 2026 that 1470 companies were removed from the Register of Companies. What is significant about this is that most of the companies were sequentially numbered between #11000 -12999 and incorporated in the period 2020 to 2022. Only 530 companies from that 2000 company spread remain active, as a result of the notice. This is not the first such notice but this appears to be largest removal notice in recent years.
Out of the 2000 companies incorporated between 2020 and 2022, 73.5% were non-compliant with the statutory requirements – The filing of Annual Returns and the filing of Beneficial Ownership Declaration on an annual basis. McKay Law Group in a comment to this publication observed that “the business significance of this non-compliance, seemingly showcases widespread lack of compliance knowledge by the management and officers among a wide sample set of unrelated companies incorporated locally.”
The Group further stated, this may not be the end of the story for these companies as the Companies Act does allow for the restoration of a company struck off the register on an application after correcting the non-compliance that necessitated the striking off the register.
